Principal's Message

Welcome to Dow's Prairie!!

We are proud to provide the foundation for our student's educational journey!  We serve students and their families in grades TK through second grade.  Our focus is on early literacy for all and families can choose between our Spanish Immersion and STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics) programs.

I am deeply committed to Equity in Education.  Our school staff welcomes all students and their families with open hearts, YOU BELONG HERE!  We continue to work to update and improve our curriculum to engage and inspire all learners and their beautiful diversity.  We continue to mine our own biases and work to ensure all students and families feel supported and valued.  When problems arise, we are ready to listen to understand and work to change our systems to support ALL students.

I also believe that education should be joyful and loving!  Children thrive when they have trusting relationships with their teachers and support staff.  While teachers do the heavy lifting of teaching students to read, write, spell, and calculate; our school also works to build community.  Annual traditions, community building events, student art and performance will be showcased regularly.  If you have ideas for making our school exciting and fun...I am ready to listen!!

We are ready to partner with you in your child's education and growth.  There are many ways to engage in your child's schooling that honor your other commitments and talents.  We utilize Edlio Engage to keep families abreast of school and classroom happenings.  There are regular opportunities to weigh in via survey about the effectiveness of various programs.  You can follow our district Facebook page for reminders and proud moments.  Teachers welcome family volunteers in their classrooms and we have a number of committees to gather family input, including Site Council and DLAC/ELAC.  Our McKinleyville Schools Parent Teacher Organization (MSPTO) is another great way to support many of the exciting enrichments for our kids!

Above all, I want you to know that I'm here for your student and your family.  Please don't hesitate to reach out.

Yours Sincerely,

Julie Giannini Previde (Ms. Julie)
